If you do not host an email server of your own and you solely rely on external hosting companies then you will want to know if their webmail system is secure. A quick way to check is to simply ask, but visually you can see too.
Before logging in, always make sure that the protocol used is “https“, this will be the first text seen on the address bar e g. https://your webmail.com. If you only see http then this is insecure and the laziest of hackers can easily see your password going across your network should they have access.
Call your hosting provider to see if they can offer you an alternative!

Decided to give Computerfaults a face lift. Trying to find the time from somewhere to add more content but the last few months have been a little mad. I have managed to update the internet page though. Next few months should see more content coming!!

Hard drives are about to undergo one of the biggest format shifts in 30 years.
By early 2011 all hard drives will use an “advanced format” that changes how they go about saving the data people store on them.
The move to the advanced format will make it easier for hard drive makers to produce bigger drives that use less power and are more reliable.
However, it might mean problems for Windows XP users who swap an old drive for one using the changed format.

Geek Barbie?
Well for as long as I’ve been a techie I’ve never had a “barbie” sitting next to me re-installing windows
Which actually springs a question to mind….”I wonder just how many female techies there actually is?”

Well my phone was due to be upgraded recently and I reluctantly opted for the Iphone over the Blackberry. What a mistake!
There are many reasons why I prefer the blackberry to the Iphone but the one thing that really agitated me is whenever I wanted to add content to the Iphone I was totally reliant on Itunes to do it!..
Don’t get me wrong, if you fancy flash gizmos and the latest technology then the Iphone is for you, but for me it has to be the Blackberry so I’ve returned the flash gizmo and am now awaiting my new Bold 9700
A big Ho Ho Ho and a Merry Christmas to all from Computerfaults.
